1 Inquisitive and bright students, top-of-the-line faculty, updated technology, one-of-a-kind educational opportunities, state-of-the-art facilities and a beautiful 21-acre campus near downtown … At Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, we have a lot to be thank- ful for. In recent months, we have been focused on "Returning to Our Roots" and showcasing all of the wonderful things happening daily at KCUMB. As part of this effort, we are proud to share with you in this Annual Report just a few of the many ways our students, faculty and alumni are branching out. During the 2009-2010 fiscal year, alumni and friends of KCUMB gave $828,765 in cash and stock gifts in support of the University. The result of that generosity can be seen all around our campus, and it benefits our students and faculty each day. Thanks to the donors listed in this report, KCUMB has completed signifi- cant capital improvements totaling more than $1.2 million during the past several months. The array of improvements focused entirely on providing better resources for teaching and learning, as well as upgrading and enhancing technology. Among the list of improvements, we completed a massive top-to-bottom over- haul of the Dr. and Mrs. James D. Wheeler Osteopathic Clinical Skills Laboratory, now a modern, technology-rich environment for teaching osteopathic medicine; in- stalled new camera, audio and lighting systems inside the anatomy laboratory; and we also added new electrical outlets and data jacks, as well as upgraded audio sys- tems inside two of our main classroom lecture facilities. This is only the beginning. KCUMB is committed to ensuring that we use our fi- nancial resources in a responsible manner, something we strive to demonstrate daily by placing students' needs above all other considerations. You can help KCUMB provide high-quality educational experiences for its stu- dents. In addition to financial support, I call on you to become a mentor to students as a preceptor, showcase your expertise by serving as a guest lecturer or simply spread the word regarding all of the great things hap- pening at your alma mater. As graduates and friends of KCUMB, you are our greatest assets. Thank you again for all of your loyalty and gen- erosity during the past fiscal year. Sincerely, H. Danny Weaver, D.O.
